Lake Viñuela and beyond
Cantueso takes its name from the wild lavender that covers these mountains in summer. The finca sits above Lake Viñuela in the heart of the Axarquía — a landscape of olive groves, whitewashed villages and ancient trails, with the Mediterranean visible on a clear day and the beaches of the Costa del Sol under an hour away.

On the water
Spain's largest reservoir in Andalusia sits directly below the finca. Rent a kayak or paddleboard, walk the lakeside paths in the cool of the morning, or simply watch the water change colour through the afternoon. Sunsets from the lake shore rival anything on the coast.

The villages
Periana, Comares, Vélez-Málaga and a string of whitewashed hilltop villages are within twenty minutes of the finca. Comares — the eagle's nest of the Axarquía — sits at over 700 metres with panoramic views across the province. Stop for coffee, wander the narrow lanes and pick up local olive oil, Moscatel wine and subtropical fruit at the market.

On foot
The Sierra Tejeda rises behind the finca, crossed by hiking routes through lavender, wild herbs and cork oak. Trails range from gentle valley walks to full-day mountain ascents with views to the sea. We keep a list of our favourite routes and can point you towards the right one for your pace.

The coast
The Mediterranean is forty-five minutes by car. Nerja's Balcón de Europa and its hidden cove beaches are the closest reward; Torre del Mar and the broader Costa del Sol are equally easy. Come back in the evening to the quiet of the hills — the best of both worlds.

The city
Málaga punches well above its size. The Picasso Museum, the Roman Theatre and the Moorish Alcazaba sit within easy walking distance of each other. The port has been transformed into one of Andalusia's best waterfront promenades. The old city rewards slow walking and an early dinner before the drive back through the hills.
Beyond the finca
From championship golf and Mediterranean beaches to Moorish cities and the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada — all within easy reach of Cantueso.
